PPG's approach to technology development and transfer is unparalleled.

Long-range fundamental research is directed from PPG's Coatings corporate research and development facility in Allison Park, Pennsylvania. PPG's worldwide R&D laboratories are strategically located to focus on specific packaging technologies and unique geographic market place needs. These are further supported by regional and local laboratories that facilitate technology transfer and problem solving. This comprehensive approach allows PPG to seek long-term innovations while responding quickly to the industry's changing environmental and food contact requirements and regulations.

Technology experts at PPG's R&D laboratories are focused on today's technology needs which include:

  • General Line, 3p aerosol, monobloc aerosol and tube packaging technologies.
  • internal and external body coatings for two- and three-piece steel and aluminum food cans and ends.
  • research and product development of coatings for twist-off and lug caps.
  • new coatings technology, including development of BPA-free and BADGE-free coatings technology for food and beverage cans and ends.
  • development of epoxy-acrylate can end coatings, and other water-based technologies.
